    AN8 Ultra Help!

Right, i have recieved ny board back from Scan NFF and have re-installed it with a shiny new 530w Tagan and it now boots! but not into windows! I get a message...couldn't open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)

Anybody knows what it means and what I can do about it?

Well I still dont know what it meant but I changed my corsair xms 4400 back to my geil golden dragon, and it now all works! I think at default the mobo was only supplying 2.6v to the memory, so perhaps that was it.
I'll try again tomorrow night and see what I can do

This looks to be the latest bios listed on the Abit forums, is that right?

Cancell that I discovered on the Abit main site that the latest bios is 18, and I have just flashed to that. Does anybody know if this may also cure my soft boot issues as I am getting fed up clearing the cmos!

Hmm I am beginning to wonder if removing a few components at random with a sledgehammer may improve how this board behaves!

Now its a complete lottery as to wether it will re-boot without clearing the cmos, either hard or soft re-start.

I was thinking of overclocking with this board, but it seems the fun is to get it to run at all!

Do you have the memory timings set to "AUTO" ?
If so, change it to "By SPD".

I had endless problems untill i did !

Tried auto, by spd and user define, the corsair just aint gonna work with this board, and I'm seriously wondering why I didnt buy Ebuyer own brand, I think it would have been better than this pile of .......

There is no point in overclocking it, as 3 out of 5 times it wont boot without clearing cmos, it cant even get 9 x 200 right, it comes out as 1748!

What is the memory divider set at?
As you have a Rev E CPU & DDR500 RAM it will be set at 500 if Auto or SPD & you are probably better just setting 400.

Nope, I had the divider @ 400, for some reason it doesnt seem to like this memory, I will try again this evening, putting it in different slots, etc. Any reccomendations on timing settings to try?

I did eventually (after I regained some patience) get most of my "old overclock" back, so I am now running @ 270 X 9, but I still have the "soft start" problem, it just hangs with a blank monitor when it restarts, any ideas, anyone?

POST code on the LED when it does this?
If you drop to the 333 divider or 266 does it make a difference?

I think iirc the led post code is 9.0 I havent tried 266 but @ 333 it still does it. At the mo I am using 2 x 256 Geil golden dragon, this is pc 3500, and so far seems to be rock solid up to 230 Mhz in anything!

    Right, latest update, I have got it occt stable with the 4400 in (slots 3&4), @ 3,5,5,10. 1t , 2.9v & 333 divider!

This means the ram is running @ 140! hardly the 275 @ 1:1 I was hoping for, but maybe its a starting point.
Any ideas where to go from here greatly appreciated?

To be honest that's a shame for a pair of 4400 memory to run that low, with that timing and voltage. It cant even run df speed ? i suggest u check the compatability list of that mobo.

I did & in theory its compatable! ( they'l tell you anything wont they!)

I have now got it running @ 1:1 @ 2t, yet to do a stability test (it does a Pi fast calc)
