    New Opteron System - opinions

I want a new Opteron system for christmas and I did have £250 to spend on one. I bought a Sony HD1 for £90 however so this leaves me with £160 to spend. I've got memory, harddrives, optical drives and a case I can use from my current pc.

I've chosen the following CPU and motherboard because they are in my budget and the motherboard has onboard graphics for until I can afford a PCI-E card. I was wondering if the motherboard would be any good for overclocking because I'd like to do it when I can afford better memory and a graphics card.

Also, how good is the GeForce 6100 GPU compared to an AGP Radeon 9200 256mb?

    Thanks

if you have an existing AGP card from your present system you may want to look at the ASrock DualSATA - that supports both AGP & PCI-E.

Supposedly struggles to get over ~270HTT & there are also reports of some people having problems with memory timing.
Let's say it's a fair overclocker rather than great?

I've got 1 here to play around with when I get a chance to swap CPUs out of my AN8.

What do you reckon I could get out of a CABYE 146 with it? I'm not too fussed about huge clocks but it would be nice to get something extra out of it.

    Well a 146 has a max multi of 10x so if you can get 270HTT that's 2.7GHz.

    Nice.

I hadn't seen the thing about 1T stability problems before I'm going for the board anyway but that's an annoyance IMO.

I've got a bit of extra money now so I can buy some new memory. Would 2x1gb or 4x512mb of Geil PC3200 be better?

i would go for 2x 1gb then you have room for more the mobo maybe a bit fusier when overclocking with four sticks aswell
