arctic silver 5 gets my bet for highest performance.. they're the best retail thermal paste u can buy tho not by a huge margin..
arctic ceramique would be the best overall as they're almost as cheap as dirt and is only a wee bit behind AS5..
If all fails.. there's always the Akasa Shinetsu..
EDIT: And also Vegemite.. just as you get some new Shinetsu from Maplin tomorrow..
You forgot Nanotherm :P. I forgot the name but there's a Nanotherm product in liquid form iirc. It's easier to apply evenly and perform better than AS5 by 1 deg C, again iirc. But cant find i t anywhere so i normally go with the AS5
i use some akasa stuff which seems to be the only stuff in maplins, authough i got it from www.thecoolingshop.co.uk . They did not have arcti silver in stock.
The best stuff to get is from the artic group. They do 3 types:
Artic Silver
Artic Alumina
Artic Ceramic
The ceramic one is 100% non conductive so no danger of shorting stuff out but I've never had any problems with the other types.
Apparently Artic Silver is ther top of the range product but to be perfectly honest having used alumina and silver. They made no difference to me. And 1°C difference won't allow you to overclock to have a 10fps difference in games anyway.
does thermal paste go out of date if u open it?
not that i know of. It doesnt have a use by date on the side of it or anything. i cant imagine any of the substances and chemicals used are of the type that "go off" after exposure to air or absorb water or anything like that.
best is Shinetsu imo & yes TIM does go off.
Always been a fan of AS5 tbh, but it stains like a *****, got it on the curtains here and its refusing to come off :p
lol I know what you mean - I had some on my finger tips and proceeded to install my RAM without washing my hands... I now have AS5 smeared all over my copper spreaders that just won't shift, even with isopropyl alcholol :inquisiti Maybe I need some Brasso or something :PQuote:

How does AS5 go off? (I thought it's chemically inert?) As far as I know it just might seperate a little, in which case just mix it back up before application. I've got some 3-year old AS3 that seems just fine. Stored at room temperature in a drawer.
Seems like a waste, no matter how cheap, to use a new tube for each annual CPU upgrade or something.
Must admit i got some stuff bundled with Gigabyte HSF and i just used that. Temps seem good so far tho ive not used it very much, but yeah it does look like glue
