    Help on notebook power supply..

    Hi guys,

Just need some pointers into them notebook psu's..

Well, my wife's 5 year old Pentium III 1Ghz NEC Versa Premium notebook is nearing its age.. nearing its age as in nearing its psu age.. the system would sometimes start up.. but no screens.. no dvd-rom.. just the cpu fan spinning and some hdd trashing.. and maybe after trying like 10-20 cold boots.. the system finally starts up normally..

I suspect its the notebook PSU.. do you guys have any ideas into how to change them notebook PSUs? I mean, is it even possible? Obviously NEC don't make these anymore.. Was wondering if a normal desktop PSU would have the neccessary molexes to fit them equipments or motherboards? Remember this was like 5 years ago.. but way back then this notebook rocked..

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

If its an external PSU, then any generic PSU with teh same output voltage, current capacity and connector should do the job. A deskto PSU is a completely different type of thing and wouldn't do the job. If it's one of the internal invertors that has packed up, your only real hope is to go the the mfr (I think you said NEC) and see if you can get a replacement. If it's a plug in unit, no problem, if it is built into the notebooks mobo, then it probably isn't worth the hassle/expense.
