    New Laptop. £1200->£1500 budget... suggestions?

    Hey guys, been given the task of finding a laptop for one of my dads friends. I'm not really up with the latest info about laptops so I thought it would be best to put it to you guys.

    Basically, the guy is a financial adviser, and just wants a fast + reliable laptop. He doesnt need any 3D capabilities, just something with a decent processor, decent amount of ram (1gb?), reasonable harddrive.. and a cd drive

    What do you guys recommend? The budget is a max of £1500 but if a solution could be found thats much cheaper then thats (of course) good

    was thinking something like an ibm (well lenovo ) thinkpad or something similar?

    Any specific requirement about weight at all ? If weight is not an issue then i recommend the Thinkpad T43 (http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx...avigationKey=0)

    It's in no way cheap but well worth the data protection it provide. I got a T40 and drop it 2-3 times, no problem (lid closed). Also the recovery is quick and easy. Also hidden from user so no tinkering to worry bout.

    Weight isnt too much of an issue, the laptop is mostly used either at his home or at the office - and the one which he is replacing was quite a heavy beast. £1,150 looks a reasonable price, would be good to get some other input though before i decide which to get him

    If he's on the move then a Dell latitude X1 might suit ( http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/pr...dt1&l=en&s=bsd)

    Still with Dell, the notebook advisor might be worth a look ( http://catalog.euro.dell.com/advisor...=en&cs=ukbsdt1)
