So, looks like a Monday/Tuesday delivery.
Put up some quick review would u ;) I want to see how it performs compared to the 3800X2
Will do! I will at least try and do a subjective impression of how Photoshop feels - can't think of any other s/w that likes dual core (plese tell me if you know of any "useful" open source s/w or games that get boosted by dual core) - except Windoze of course. And I will certainly look out for any difference in game performance. Managed to convince myself last week that transitions in Rome Total War might be going a teeny bit quicker now that I've got 2 gig of ram, but more than likely, my brain is just trying to convince me that I didn't waste my money. Having said that, memory leak problem has (coincidentally?) gone away.Quote:

Anyone know how accurate the status posting of these 2 systems are?

They are pretty accurate, and Parcelforce doesn't always get thing round in 24 hours so just be patience. Try Cinebench, it's a benchmarking soft but it's take good use of dual core so might worth trying

There is a 30 day evaluation copy of 3ds Max available from www.autodesk.com . I don't know if the eval version supports dual cores (the specifications seem to state it does though). It'll be a big download but a good benchmark.

Update:
My CABYE 542 FPMW arrived today, from Scan. It was preordered a week ago, and the website is currently showing "out of stock".
I'll let you know how it overclocks, but I'm not planning on going past stock voltage :)
Hello
Not sure what's going on with my delivery and neither are Parcelfarce.
It has been out for delivery 3 times since the 19th Nov, but no knock, no card. Parcelfarce have said that their system should have been updated everyday the parcel went "out for delivery" but was not delivered, but nothing has been recorded. If my opteron really has been sat on a delivery van for 3 days then I won't be suprised if it's damaged by now.
I would really feel sorry for a business if they were relying on a delivery and received this sort of service, it's just a joke.
Cheers

Well Komplett is always obsessive with their packaging, so i wouldn't worry it got crush, my hard drive arrived in a box big enuf to fit a monitor inside. :Z
Once upon a time I worked in a ParcelForce "Where's my damn parcel?" centre. I spent my days working out where a parcel might have gone if it hadn't reached it's intended destination (useful tip: don't guess the postcode if you don't know it, for example CH is Chester NOT Chelmsford) and the tracking/POD tech they have is admittedly pretty impressive when it works. However, they use a lot (disclaimer: my info is a few years old) of agency drivers who have a nasty tendency to not card failed deliveries. It wouldn't have been sat on a delivery van for 3 days though, it would more likely have been sat in a cage in the depot.Quote:

Hello
Got my opteron - first delivery attempted 6 days after it first went to the delivery depot. Just left in the porch, next to a parcel from Lynx - who covered themselves (not) by putting a sticker on the front door to tell me that a parcel was in the porch. If I was thieving a parcel I think I would take the sticker as well!
Just let the opteron bed in yesterday. No stressing, just left the PC on and played Rome Total War on it and then one of my boys gave it a thrashing with a long CS:S session.
Most impressive thing has been the monstrously proportioned Arctic Freezer Pro heatsink/fan which was keeping the temp down to 24/25 celsius - with this sort of heat protection it would be wrong for me to not try at least moderate overclocking.
Ta for all the tips about dual core s/w! And sorry to anyone waiting for any serious testing of my opteron - my dad went into hospital yesterday and it's doubtful that I'm going to be very busy doing anything very useful on my PC.
Cheers
