hi, just a quick question...if i was going for only a moderate overclock to say 2.4Ghz would the retail heatsink fan be adequate ?

Hello
quick answer yes! although i would reccomend a better hsf if you need to go over 1.55v
Shouldn't be a problem. I guess the temp would be around 38-40 under load.
Dont think u need to go as far as 1.55 in order to pass 2.4
Even a measly Venice wont need anything more than stock 1.35V to hit 2.4Ghz.. let alone these high flying Opterons..
Me want Ultrabook
hi there gys dont be foo.led by the first post i have been into this forum under a differnt name for ages, erm i am planning when the fu**ing things find thier way back into this country an opty 146 wat cooler would you recomend i will be overclocking to around 2.6-2.8 so wat would you go for?
The XP-120, or the 8-shape Zalman thingy, or the Scythe Ninja. I used the XP-120 so my vote go for it.
I am currently running at 2.5 (worked first go so havent fifddled yet), temps are just under 40 on the stock cooler.
Zalman 9500 (the 8 shape heatpipe thingy) gets my vote... XP-120 performance, but quieter..
Me want Ultrabook
The XP-120 doesn't come with a fan so its only as quiet or loud as the fan you chose for it. If you get a good panaflo or silenx then it can be quiet and cool well.Originally Posted by sawyen
Indeed, but you'll need a fan with decent airflow to match the cooling capacity of the zalman.. and this is where the advantage comes in.. The zalman wont be able to match one with a 12cm Tornado, but it'll cool them much quieter abeit the 1-2C difference..
And yes... adding a Panaflo will surely quiet things down, but it doesnt have that PIMPED look when you have one of them windowed cases.
Me want Ultrabook
It does if you fit an LED fan (& there are quiet ones)Originally Posted by sawyen
LOL but you have that industrial pro looks. And the Akasa amber with case lighting would do pretty much the same job
fair enough, well then I guess its down to preference then.. maybe motherboard compatibility? The thermalright does have a relatively large footprint..Originally Posted by BUFF

Uncompatible with all DFI NF4 lanparty. It blocks the first PCI-E slot so no SLi.
I'm using Arctic Freezer Pro 64, 2.7Ghz 1.4375V is just a bit over 40'C at load
