hi, just a quick question...if i was going for only a moderate overclock to say 2.4Ghz would the retail heatsink fan be adequate ?

Shouldn't be a problem. I guess the temp would be around 38-40 under load.

Even a measly Venice wont need anything more than stock 1.35V to hit 2.4Ghz.. let alone these high flying Opterons..

The XP-120, or the 8-shape Zalman thingy, or the Scythe Ninja. I used the XP-120 so my vote go for it.

Zalman 9500 (the 8 shape heatpipe thingy) gets my vote... XP-120 performance, but quieter..

The XP-120 doesn't come with a fan so its only as quiet or loud as the fan you chose for it. If you get a good panaflo or silenx then it can be quiet and cool well.

Indeed, but you'll need a fan with decent airflow to match the cooling capacity of the zalman.. and this is where the advantage comes in.. The zalman wont be able to match one with a 12cm Tornado, but it'll cool them much quieter abeit the 1-2C difference..

And yes... adding a Panaflo will surely quiet things down, but it doesnt have that PIMPED look when you have one of them windowed cases.

LOL but you have that industrial pro looks. And the Akasa amber with case lighting would do pretty much the same job

fair enough, well then I guess its down to preference then.. maybe motherboard compatibility? The thermalright does have a relatively large footprint..

Uncompatible with all DFI NF4 lanparty. It blocks the first PCI-E slot so no SLi.
