Colour Laser for a Small Business

Right. My company are beginning to spend some serious money on print jobs for brochures and the like. I was curious to know if it would be worth our while investing in a decent colour laser. The main thing I am not sure about is whether modern mid range colour lasers (between £500 and 1 grand) can print right to the edge of the paper?

Our brochures run right to the edge, and this is one thing we cant compromise on. We only do A4 prints maximum, so that's not much of an issue. Can anyone recommend a printer to me?

The revews I have read suggest that cheap colour lasers are almost as bad as cheap inkjets when it comes to expensive consuables, part filled & chipped cartrages etc.

Have you considered buying a high end ink jet? For your kind of budget you could buy a top end model with network support, postscript etc, and not be overcharged on ink.

Tell me about it, we've got some HP4650 printers and they combine the imaging unit into the toner cartridges - this means the cartridges wear even if you're not using the colour. So no matter how sparse you are with colour, the cartridges always ran out at a particular page count anyway. I reckon we were throwing some cartridges away with over half the toner left sometimes

We've now got a Xerox 6350 to test, and not only is it cheaper and faster, the toner cartridges don't have chips in them and just keep going

Anyone know about print-to-edge? I cant find any decent info on any of the manufacturer websites...

I haven't noticed any lasers that list this in their specifications whilst I was looking I'm afraid, only inkjets.

I'm thinking the Xerox Phaser is pretty much up your street. I've used one, theyre great. waxy image = quality = durable = good marketing. Don't know if it does borderless tho? Is that majorly important?

I got Xerox to send me a demo print about a year back. I dare say they will do one for you if you ask them.

Canon will do the same, If you go to their website and upload a photo, Word doc or the like, they will print it for you and post it back so you can check on print quality.
