TwinMOS vs TwinMOS + Winbond?

TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB w/Winbond
TwinMOS PC3200 TwiSTER DDR 512MB CL2

I assume the first one is CL2.5
I also assume that the TwiSTER version comes with the heatspreader as in the pictures. So once that is taken into account, they are priced the same.

On paper, it'll be a non-brainer then, but I keep reading good thing about Winbond. Could anyone tell me what makes them so great, and if it makes them great enough to make the former better than the later?

Also consider the std TwinMOS (neither Winbond nor Twister) as they can offer great savaings and IMHO are still great RAM. Winbond is well known to be top notch stuff, not so sure about their Twister stuff, heatspreaders come in handy if you plan to heavily overvolt. FWIW is it for a P4 or an Athlon?

Its for an AMD system.
I consider the premium to be acceptable (assuming can do CAS2 @ 200), and it is certainly more affordable than Corsairs/Mushkin offerings!

How useful are heat spreaders? Heat spreaders with fans?
(How much more Mhz can you push typically by adding either?)

More decorative really, heat isn't really an issue for RAM ... unless you overvolt it and then IMHO you're asking for a whole world of trouble including lots more heat in your case, possible damage to the RAM (short or long term) and a slight possibility of damaging the mobo too. I am over cautious when it comes to pumping up the voltage and the risks are pretty tiny, but there none-the-less.

Heat spreaders rarely do anything at all, they are basically for show, though you can sometimes get a few Mhz out, but that is pretty much the height of it.

I had mega problems with winbond chips in my Asus nforce2 board. I would steer clear of winbond stuff.

I still think crucial is the best stuff out there.

Well it seems recently Crucial have adjusted their prices to mroe realistic levels but even so their PC3200 (the fastest they sell) is CL3 which though hardly bad isn't on par with other brand's offerings. Asus are known to be about the pickiest for RAM, still I am surprised you had trouble. When dealing with PC3200+ it's always best to check what the mobo manu state as certified for compatibility.
