AMD Opteron 175 - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+...What's the difference?

I've seen a lot of posts about the dual core Opteron processors, and I am quite curious as to how they differ from the Antlon 64 X2 processors.

They look the same to me lol (spec wise), but if someone could enlighten me, that'll be greatly appreciated.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ = AMD Opteron 175

The difference is in L2 cache. The total L2 on Opty is 2Mb, 1Mb per core. While the X2 got only 1Mb, 512kb per core.

And they apparently overclock better yes?

IF theyre anything like their single core cousins they should overclock well. The only real consideration now is going to be heat, as I guess they produce more than single cores.

No the amd 4400+ has 1mb lvl 2 cache per core

Can confirm about the 1mb L2 cache per core on the 4400+ Great CPU.

Dunno mu8ch about the opty but I think its basically the same core apart from slightly improved silicone. If its cheaper: get it

If yuou had a choice between the two CPUs, and the 4400+ is cheaper (about £30-£40), which one would you get?

Go for the Opty. At the same clockspeeds, either chip will perform pretty much identically - which leaves you with overclocking and that is where the opty will win out, usually

OK. Was Just wondering becuase I have the 4400+ at 2.6 but can't go any further lol. I might sell it and get the 175, which I'm told can get to 2.8 easy on air!?
