    Semperon 2400+

Don't laugh, but I've got one of these now (thanks to a flood damaging the machines they were in, but not the processor).

Now I was thinking along the lines of putting it in a nf7 or equivelent, shoving a quiet fan on it and running it as a media center with 1x80gb and 2x300gb diamond max 10s in it. What u guys think? Worth it or not?

    Any opinions much apreciated.

If you can pick up a cheap NF7 yeh it will be worth it as it is still a reasonable card.

I think as long as you stick with a reputable nf2 board you should be alright. I would think about getting one with a silent chipset cooling solution though as that might piss you off royally if its whining away all night.

No idea about ram for a media centre but 2x512mb is cheap these days

psu wise you won't need anything mega high spec but I'd still buy from a good brand. Scan do good deals on hiper psu's atm.

The setup would probably work fine, i'm not sure if you'd need a good media type graphics card ie all in wonder or not though as I don't know much about video playback

1x80gb for programs etc. Then 2x300gb in RAID 0 for data etc. The 80gb will be IDE, and then the 2x300gbs on SATA channels. I wanna be able to switch the 300gb hdds out of one machine and into another if necessary, so don't want any programs, windows or anything on it.

Sempron 2400? Not that bad of a processor imo.... Does the job for me, even if I would prefer a XP-M 2500 or Barton 2500... ^_^ Got mine running on an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe, and she runs fairly well.... Only thing that slows my rig down is my ram (PC2100, 512MB).... With a Coolermaster PIPE101 (with SilentCat90 attached), she's fairly quiet (even with the Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer that's attached to my Radeon 9800 Pro), and doesn't run too hot...

Yeah not bad, doesn't really compare with my main desktop (this is hopefully going to be a media machine) which is running a 3200+ Barton with 1536mb Dual Channel DDR-400 ram and a 6800 gt

What are the overclocking (and consequently underclocking) options that are avaialble on the A7N8X-E Deluxe, because I want it to be as quiet as possible, and does it have optical out - so I can link it to my 600w 5.1 set when I move everything in my room

    Cheers

I'll have to get back to you tonight about those questions... I know the board's not the best for overclocking, however it does have some options... As for the optical out, I'll verify when I get home... Actually, I'll just reference the review ^_^

    http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=697
^Full details there... Although I don't own the wireless version myself. by the looks of it, they didn't have much success, only able to get to 228MHz FSB (compared to 240MHz for other competing boards)

I'd give my overclocking experiences, but I'm hampered by PC2100 RAM atm until I can afford that OCZ 2GB PC3200 kit (as this current box is being converted into an audio rig) ^_^
