dual core operton boards
any recommends for a motherboard to support a operton dual core think its the 170, i assumed the epox and they have told me it wont run it.
AMD Opteron 170, 2.0GHz, Socket 939, 2MB
EPoX EP-9NPA+ SLI,nForce4 SLI,Socket-939 ,ATX,S-ATA2,GbLAN,Firewire,DDR, PCI-Ex16
some told me u could but epox say nah...computer says no...lol

Runs on Abit AN8 series.
Bear in mind that AMD may not let any mobo mfr claim official support for an Opteron in a standard desktop board same as they won't with Mobiles.
Of course that doesn't mean that they won't work in desktops ...

I dont see why, with the latest BIOS the epox recognise dual core and Opty, im running an 146 atm no problem
-
i actually sent them a spec on what i wanted and epox said nah that 170 wont work on it which led to me ask around which boards do i dont wanna get it and see it wont work or damage the board.
-
It wont damage the board, pretty impossible IMO. It either boot up saying unknown CPU or dont boot up @ all, why dont u go for the Asus or the DFI ones ?
-
well if one of those will do they job thats not a prob, but which ones and are u sure they will work?
