    Laptop Hard Drive Recovery

    Hi there.

My laptops been recently damaged (mainly the screen) and Ive got a few things on the hard drive that i need to transfer to a my desktop PC (cant see enough of screen to do it a normal way). Ive taken the laptops hard drive out (its a Hitachi Travelstar HTS428060F9AT00 60 GB) but now dont know how to wire it to my desktop. Anyone any ideas?

    Cheers

You'll probably need an adaptor, 44-pin laptop eide to 40-pin eide + power. You can get them off ebay for ~£6 I think.

Doesn't your laptop support 'firewire target disk mode'? Or is that a Mac only thing?

Get a 2.5 inch hard drive enclosure (external hard drive case) off ebay or scan. They're quite cheap. Then connect the enclosure to the usb port of your pc and transfer everything off.

Unfortunately not, although no idea if its only a Mac thing. Cheers for the heads up on the adapter, off to check now.
