CPU Heatstink
I built my first computer yesterday and all went very well, but when I tried to take my heatstink off I couldn't get it off and looking at my AMD manual it look's like I may have put it on the wrong way. It's coolin the CPU properley at 38 'C it's just I cant get the dam thing off. If you can see it is on the wrong way then can you please tell.
Thank's in advance.

That looks like its on fine to me, I dont think theres a "wrong" way to put them on to be honest, though I could be wrong.
They are very difficult to get off once the compund has cemented itself. Try gently "twisting" it to loosen it from the chip, dont try yanking it or you will pull the chip out of the socket!

Should have explaind better...it's the hook's on the side's that I cant seem to get off.

:heckle: :shocked2: Push it down and slide the bar through the heat sink, but dont push down too hard or you will bugger the chip up.

I recently had to do the same thing, I tried to slide my bar across but it wouldn't go, I found very careful use of a flat head screw driver worked then you have to be very careful, the compund on the bottom, as Slinger said, sets like concrete, I pulled to hard and ripped the chip out of the socket, it all works fine thank god but its risky, found afterwards a sharp knife does the trick, then its just a matter of cleaning up the chip with some nail varnish remover and cotton wool.
