Budget £700, whats the best spec shuttle you can come up with?

hihi, friend of mine wants a shuttle system mainly as a pc upgrade, must have at least 1gb ram and 250gb hd, the rest is up2 you.

doesn't mind using AMD or Intel, ATi or Nvidia.

so which is the best shuttle to go for atm.

£700 budget not including mon, keyboard, mouse, just on base unit.

    cheers

Thought I'd take up your challenge as I'm currently scouting for components for a Shuttle myself. Courtesy of EBuyer:
(I've included the Quickfind code as well)

    Shuttle SB86i XPC (093002) £197.57

    Intel Pentium 4 640 3.2Ghz Socket 775
    800mhz 2mb Retail Boxed (087128) £119.30

    Gecube Radeon X850pro 256mb PCI-E (097898) £127.64

Geil Value 1Gb PC3200 Dual Chan DDR Kit
    (2x512MB) (Cas 2.5 6-3-3) (097038) £53.59

Western Digital WD2500JS Caviar SE 250GB
    7200RPM SATA2/300 8MB Cache - OEM (094404) £62.31

    LG GSA-4167BA 16x DVD±RW/RAM Dual Layer
    Internal IDE (Beige) - OEM (096691) £24.16

    +Shipping. Total inc. VAT £695.58

Ah, and money to spare for a pint or two ;-). Unless I've forgotten something!
I'm sure other Hexus members will be able to 'tweak' the list or destroy it completely in favour of something better.

Just did a quick spec of an AMD system from overclockers :

    Shuttle XPC ST20G5 Aluminium Barebones System - AMD 64 (Socket 939) (FS-047-SH) £209.00
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-132-AM) £119.95
    Corsair 1GB DDR Value Select PC3200 CAS2.5 Kit (2x512MB) (VS1GBKIT400) (MY-041-CS) £52.95
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition - OEM (OS-001-MS) £54.95
    Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-018-SA) £70.75
    NEC ND4550 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Silver) - OEM (CD-025-NE) £26.50
    Subtotal £534.10
    VAT £93.47
    Total £627.57

This obviously INCLUDES windows, but no discrete graphics card (but Motherboard does have onboard graphics for starters).

For £70, you could get an XFX GeForce PCX6600 256MB DDR TV-Out (PCI-Express) to bring you up to budget, but if you DON'T want games then stick with onboard graphics. If you DO want to play games, splash out a little more on the above card, or I hear very good things about the X800 GTO's (and GTO2's).

At the risk of going off on a tangent, I was apologising for the double post, ie posting the same message twice. I was not apologising for my apology at that time, which was my third consequetive post.

I shall however apologise for this explanation, which is somewhat long-winded.

That makes four posts in this thread and two apologies.
