Is my Tagan tg480-u01 suitable for new rig?

I bought of these from scan a while ago (mine has a dedicated 4 molex lead coloured blue for the gfx card)

I'm upgrading to a Opty 146, DFI LP UT SLI-D (maybe DR) and a 7800gt. I presume all I will need is a "2x molex to 6 pin PCI-e adapter" for the gfx card.

If I upgrade to SLI in the future does anyone think I'll have any issues with this supply? It runs 28A on the 12v rail so I'm unsure if I will be maxing this out with 2x 7800gt's.

Opteron 146 (TT Big Typhoon) hopefully with a nice oc.

    cd-rw
3x 120mm fans (gigabyte aurora case)

I have one of those and it works for me. I only have one HD and 2 case fans though, but apart from that our setups are similar.

I hate to say this, but this place is getting to me. I think I'm getting the fear.

Tagan psu's are excellent quality it should be enough to power your system. It will be pretty close with SLI but should be ok. If you're going to be overclocking things then I would consider the 580w version up.

I think thats the u-01 is an older Tagan psu. The newer ones have dedicated 6 pin pcie power connectors for SLI graphics cards so I would think about getting those over this one.

If you look at Scan the price difference between the 480-u01 and the 2force Sli is is only about £4 and thats the same as two pcie convertors but you don't lose any molex's in the process.

Cheers - I got more molex's on that PSU than I know what to do with!!

I'll use the vga molex to plug into the DFI board anyway (apparantly you need this for SLi) and use 2x molex for one gfx card to start with and see how the overlclocking goes.

It will be awhile before I will consider SLi so it's not a problem now.

I also presume that the P4 4pin square connector on the psu is now used for S939 boards. Never thought I'd see the day when a mobo needed 3 individual sources of power.

    Hi,

I have a similar dilemma, but have read that the 480W will be more than sufficient for opteron 165/dfi sli-d/7800gt/3 hard drives/2 opticals!

hope it works out for you though!
