    External PSU & Cooler Temps

    This may sound crazy but why cant the PSU be an external one.The CPU may generate higher temps but the PSU generates alot more heat.

    All one would need are longer cables to connect to the MB.

    One could then dispense with a number of noisy fans too.

    Any one know of such a thing.

    I don't know of any off-hand that use atx connectors etc, but the idea has certainly been used before..

    I quite liked to use my old miggy power-brick to keep my feet warm in the winter

    Geez, I did not realise that the PSU contributed significantly to the internal temperature of a case. What sort of temperature fall could be achieved by moving, say an average 400 watt PSU, outside of the case?

    Conversely, the problem with putting bits out of the computer case is that it is more of a pain when you want to move the computer.

    The really strange thing about the "Morex 55w PSU" IMO is having more floppy disk powers connectors than HDD/CD/DVD connectors.

    If I remember my high school physics ,the amount of heat generated should be:

    400x20=80 Watts.

    Where the power factor (PF) is .80.

    I will try and have this confirmed independently.

    The major portion of the heat generation in my opinion is the step down process from 220V to 12V.
