Asus Sli deluxe- Chipset fan does not sound too happy...

I have the "new" diamond shaped one. Recently just raised my FSB to 240 and set a divider of 333.

I have a zalman northbridge cooler at the ready, is it time to mount?

My god, its really making wierd sounds, a LOUD BUZZ and little sreeches (tiny ones).

Normally spins at 5114RPM, its currently spinning at 5273 (off speedfan).

Any help? Normally its this loud but then goes back to normal within 2 seconds.

Has it only just started to do it since you raised your FSB? Do you have temperature read outs from the NB? As long as you have good air flow in your case the Zalman will be fine so if silence is your main goal then get it fitted

Agreed. Zalman gives pretty similar temps to the fan, if you have good case airflow.

You could unscrew it - remove the little sticker from the back and put a drop of oil in - make sure it's light oil like sewing machine or clock makers oil or it will gum up.

is it just me or do asus have a bit of a problem with chipset fans. I have the same board and mine suffered from the same problems that yours does. luckily scan replaced it for free so try asking the seller for a new one.

The original fan was bad. The newer ones are not noisy based on a sample of two, but I don't know if their failure rate is as bad as the original.

Sorry to jump on your thread mate, but how are you finding that mobo for overclocking, is it any good?

I would not reccomend it for overclocking, max VCORE is 1.55 and FSB has problems booting over 270. But as a stable board and for mild overclocking (400mhz) its great.
