Performance increase - 3000+ to 146?

Hi,
My 3000+ Winchester is capable of 2.2Ghz 24/7 at the moment, with stock cooling.
Is it worth the upgrade to get a 146 and overclock that? Talking about £40 in upgrade money after I have sold the Winny.
PiFast is around 58seconds at the moment.
What do you reckon?

depends, obviously if you get a decent 146, that does 2.7 + your laughing for an extra 40 quid, but if your struggling to hit 2.5 your gonna be upset

I would say that with an Opty and decent cooling you'll get above 2.5 easy

Twoud be worth it for the extra cache too

If it's just a case of £40 I agree with Kempez, most 146's have managed more than 2.6 which in my books would be worth it and yes can't forget the extra cache.

Yes, even 200MHz is pretty huge. It is a great upgrade and you'll be happy you did it. The 1MB cache makes quite a bit of difference as well. Go for it!

Well 1Mb doesn't really make a difference, but you should be able to clock it nicely, and for 40quid, you can't go wrong.
