Liquid Cooling Recommendations

Ok i've just purchased the following:

Opteron 146 s939 CPU.
Asus A8N SLI Premium NVIDIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard.
Sapphire RADEON X800GTO Ultimate Edition PCI-E 256 MB GFX Card.

I was thinking of buying a Thermaltake Big Typhoon for this setup, as i'm going for a silent setup, yet capable of OCing.

But then i thought about the Liquid Cooling option.

1) Would it be worth getting Liquid Cooling over the Big T? and why?

2) Recommend me a Liquid Cooling System under £100.

3) If i did get the Big T, would this be the best solution for me? (going with Air Cooling and a silent setup).

i use alphacool for all my needs now

buy all kit with 1/4" thread

use this tubing (10mm)


and these fittings


buy full copper blocks for best performance

-they don't give you fittings with the blocks, so need to add to order

it does look quite good for the cash (and you get a choice of uv dye) but I'm yet to find anyone who has one.

I bought a TT BT instead for £28.73 inc p&p from http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...de=HFT-CLP0114

I'm gonna see if I can get my 146 @ 3ghz with it. Might go the xspc route later.

great choice, i've got that and it is incredible, my viciously overclocked 3700+ is at 25C at the moment!!!

The performance increase you get from watercooling these days isn't that big with coolers like the cns 9500 around. The main advantage is virtual silence. You have to consider if £100 extra is worth the hassle of setting it up, checking for leaks and only getting 100mhz more in almost silence.

The 9500 will get your virtually the same performance and noise levels as water (just check the reviews) for less than half the price.

Hows the Big Typhoon rate against the 9500? Is it better?

Seems alot quieter, due to the larger fan no doubt, more airflow too.

I'm very sceptical about the Big T, u get identical or better cooling with the CNPS9500 and my mate broke his Mobo with his Big T, all he did was drop the case, its heavy!

I plan to strap my BT to a support crossbar in my case, just to ensure that not all the weight is distributed through the board. Should be fine.

Strap the case to the floor - four of those strapped to pair of wings look as if they'd power a jumbo!!!

I actually work for Rolls Royce Aero Engines (Military) and took it into work cos I want one of teh fan/compressor designers to have a look. I want him to design a proper fan for it - after all Rolls is the worlds leading fan designers for Aero engines. I'm sure he could knock a fan design up pretty quick. i got a couple of friends in the prototype shop that will do the injection moulding/machining if I get a cad's model.

Never know might make a nice spin off (no pun intended) business for them.
