    Importing Opteron 165/170s?

Now that it seems the UK retail stock of Opteron dual core (165, 170) has been exhausted for good, I was wondering if anyone has ordered one of these from the USA, where they still seem to have some residual stocks?

I haven't ordered from a US retailer before, and I was wondering what sort of excess payments I can be expected to pay to the courier on delivery? Presumably an item of this value will incur VAT, and import duty, and perhaps a documentation/charge-collection fee?

I know Scan have 144 and 146s in, but my heart was set on a dual core

I'm beginning to think that for all the hassle obtaining an Opty is, an X2 3800+ from a UK source may be a better choice. Then again thats probably what AMD want!

Edited to change tryping mistale in line one, 175 changed to 170

    Ouch!

Just noticed I put 175 in the top line (subject was correct though). *Quick edit to change* Thats a hooje jump from the 165/170 prices! I suppose it's a supply and demand thing Hmm, defintely outside my budget alas.

I've just been reading around the various other forums, and it sounds like there may be an unofficial OEM supply dribbling through in late January. Oh the indecision of it all! X2-3800, Opty 144, 146 or import. *sigh*

    Ta for the pointer though.

    Cheers guys, much appreciated.

Pyramid are quoting delivery on the 20th and 29th, presumably the 1 and 3 are for pre-ordered stuff. Hullz, have you used them before? They have an 0870 phone number and seem to have no email contact on their "contact us" page. Just seems a bit suspicious.

I keep checking CPUCity a couple of times a day, I must have hit it between them getting them in, and them whooshing out the door! DCSplc.co.uk seems to be dead now, I asked a couple of friends to check and they can't get it either. Google's cache is of the 4th Dec 2005 so it looks like a recent web site failure. No need to remind me on here if the site reappears tomorrow

I have emailed Rainbow IT to ask whether they are "real" Optys or just "hopeful" ones. Its faintly concerning that the contact address seems to be a domestic property (according to Multimap anyway).

    Mike (now more hopeful!)

Yeah Pyramid are reliable, ordered my CPU, MB and Gfx card from them, arrived next day apart from the CPU which they had to order for me first.

They just stock/order to request so takes a little longer than most places, obviously because they already have them in stock. Makes for no dead money i guess, when things dont sell, good initiative.
