Fluctuating vcore voltage.

Hi..
Just after an opinion.
got my new opteron sytem running fine, and ive been looking at the voltages using the asus tool..

the cpu is currently running @ 2.7gig - ive had to up the vcore to get it to be stable.. but changing the vcore in the bios isnt changing much in windows. with the vcore set to 1.47 in the bios, its fluctuating between 1.4080 and 1.4240.

also looking at my other readings..
+3.3: 3.26 stable
+5: 4.93 stable
+12: 11.78 stable.

ive got a CWT 550w psu in there
its running 5 hdds, a dvdr and and a 7800gt

is it the psu or the mobo thats causing these fluctuations?

Edit: i think its that cool-n-quiet mode that was causing the vcore to go funny... will see how i get on

If its anything important, CnQ should be off whenever u go overclocking.. They're practically screw-up covered in icing..

You should take vcore reports in bios or in software with a pinch of salt

You will see a variable change as its part of the design (droop voltage)
dampens downs perceived spikes.

You will see typically 0.02v swing in most boards from an idle state to a loaded.

your 12v rail is a tad low but if it's rock stable and not fluctuating then it's fine. I wouldn't worry about the 0.02 fluctuation in vcore but I would be concerned if setting the vcore to 1.47v resulted in 1.42v.

Do as Sawyen says and turn cool and quiet off - it's pointless on an overclocked cpu and screws things up. Report back if that hasn't cleared it up. GL.

Yep... turning cool and quiet off has made a world of difference... can reach same o/c on stock voltage now
