Changing my VGA cooler.

Hey hey! I'm back!

Anyway.

My 9800 pro fan (stock) is shouting and screaming at me right now, and I think it may spew bearings and bits of broken fan at me at any moment. So I have a new fan, bought today.
It's a Iceberq 4 (was gonna get a Zalman, but you know how it is... student, and Christmas...)

So my question is, anything I need to be aware of? And, more importantly, what student household products can I use to get the old thermal paste off? Would have bought some Akasa TIM cleaner, but no.

Have enough experience with PC's, just don't want to wreck my card.

I put on an Artic Cooler 5 today, cleaning was the hardest part

I got a few Alcowipes from the chemist to clean the GPU and memory chips. 60p each but I cut them into 2 or 4 pieces before use.

I have a medical kit with an alcohol wipe in. Would that do?

Either that or sugical spirit, all does the same job...

and wrenching the old cooler off - how? (Little black pins)

Little black pins on the back need to be squeezed together, and then poked back through. Then its a case of removing the old cooler by a little twisting and levering (carefully - I used a credit card last time - which annoyingly broke ). It might be difficult but should come away cleanly, then you just need to clean up the thermal paste

I use my plastic library card - easy to replace and I only use it every 3 weeks anyway.

I usually use a tissue and if needed a wet wipe. That new cooler you got will be a noisey we bugger.

Hmmmm...
I have heard good things about this cooler... but not for the 9800 pro. This is because the 9800 pro GPU has a shim around it, and as the heatsink face is totally flat on the iceberq, it doesn't contact the core. I've heard countless stories of 9800 pros dying because of this - almost every account I've seen. So I'm not going to put it on. However, I may put in on my Motherboard, as a chipset cooler, just for the hell of it, plus it will be cooler than stock.
Will leave my stock 9800 pro fan to kill itself.
Can anyone reccomend a cooler? It can be as big as you like, doesn't have to be silent, but shouldn't cost me more than £30. My card was overclocked considerably, but now isn't.
