    Barton 2500+ Default Heatsink Rating

    Hey guys,

    I have a barton 2500+ running at 213 * 10.5 = 2236Mhz

I am using the default heatsink that came with it and although the temps arent too bad (not above 50oC on Abit NF7-S v2) I am worried that the fan isn't powerful enough for the speed I am running the processor at?

The processor fan has recently become much louder so I wondered whether this is connected? Should I reduce the clock speed down until I get a better heatsink? I going to get some oil after work and see whether the fan bearings need a bit of lubrication.

Could someone also recommend me a decent heatsink as well please (not too loud but would need to handle my overclock).

Thanks in advance for any input

Nah you shouldnt worry. My 2500 is running at 200 x 11 on stock cooling. The temps hardly budged. Anyway, these things can operate perfectly up to 70oC+. If your temp is below 50oC then everthing is mint, you dont need a new heatsink or fan.

I would rec keeping an eye on the HSF if it has become a little louder but you should be fine, if your mobo has a shutoff feature linked to either fan speed or temp it would be wise to use it. Stock AMD coolers are pretty good but since the decent and adjustable Volcano11+ are only £15 I'd sooner have an OEM myse;f and add my own HSF. IIRC www.dabs.com and www.cpucity.co.uk are top places for Volcanos but so long as you're stable I wouldn't worry.

I replaced my HSF with the Thermalright SLK-947U and a 92mm Panaflo, I'm also using Nanotherm PCM+ Phase change compound, and it's dropped my temps by over 15°C to a diode temp of 36°C idle

    It's pretty damned quiet too
