Recommendations needed for a printer

I'm on the lookout for a cheap printer (~£50) for a friend. She wants to use it to print mostly documents and ocassional pictures (photos and charts within docs, etc).

Can anyone recommend a decent printer that fits the bill and has relatively cheap inks to buy in the future (branded or decent compatibles.)

I got the HP Pixma IP2000 - harder to get these days, got it in currys for £45. It's a nice-looking photo printer.

You can buy InkRite cartridfges for it for about £3 each on ebuyer, which was the selling point for me.

Another vote for the Pixma iP2000 (it's a Canon though, not a HP). I got one in the summer and have been very pleased with it. It does a very good all round job and is pretty fast as well. It also comes with PictBridge support should they ever want to print direct from a compatible digital camera. I know Canon have updated their line though so it may be trickier to find them (the newer iP2200 lacks some of the iP2000 features, like PictBridge), I suggest a trip to Curry's though (see dannyboys post)

I've seen cartidges for a very low price (eg. Printer Inks, though I haven't used them yet).

Whatever you decide it's worth checking out how much the ink cartridges are, as paying a little more for a printer with cheaper cartidges will soon pay off!!

Thanks Elessar_VPR & dannyboy83. I was looking at the Pixma ip2200 but couldn't find decent reviews for it.

I think the Pixma range might be what my friend is looking for as they are relatively small.

How is the text printouts? Are they good quality?

After a fair bit of research we got a second hand IP4000 a few months ago and we're very happy with it.
- All the other Pixma's seamed to do well in reveiws to (the IP4000 cost us about £60 via ebay)

I've not really tested it so far, but text seems fine. It also prints borderless photos which is nice!

It's not THAT small mind you, but not huge either. Remember it still prints A4 so it's not gonna be as small as these photo only printers.
