    Recommend me a laptop.

    Hey,

Ok i need a laptop. Afew things to note are:

Its gotta be quiet, like as quiet as possible.
Has to be reasonably powerful (Has to be able to play World of warcraft, which is pretty graphic intensive at times - Not necessary play it with a fantastic FPS, but not horribly choppy)
Cant be overly expensive though, im basically getting it so i can switch to the laptop at night to stay up abit later cause my parents have recently started to moan about my PC but im flagging it off as a necessary university buy.

Failing that, my PC (In sig) is afew years old now so im sure theres new stuff out there, is there any seriously quiet CPU/Case fans now days (May consider a seriously quiet PSU too). Cause if i can just switch out the old fans for some new quieter ones thatd be awesome.

    Gimme some advice, thanks.

I been looking around for quiet CPU fans,

    How on earth does

    http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/4in1heatpipe/cl-p0114bigtyphoon/cl-p0114.htm

    work?

Like i see how it *works* but surely cause of the design all the weight is far away from the CPU, so surely when you stand the case vertical thats gonna be a hella lot of weight pulling down on the motherboard clips.

    *** edit.

DOH! im stupid, i see how its fitted now, with big H clips

    http://www.thermaltake.com/support/i...ig_Typhoon.pdf

Thats pretty nice, might consider that. Would work on my board right? Says they do in the spec.

Don't forget that your power supply may be a major source of noise as well so that may need replacing. A possibility for a cheapish quiet psu would be the nexus nx3000 mentioned in another thread although you may want a beafier seasonic if you want to spend more and have enough power to handle upgrades. These power supplies are seriously quiet but without knowing your budget I don't know if you want to stretch that far.

For the cpu fan how about a zalman 7000 superflower, they're a bit older than most cpu heatsink/fans now but are very quiet at mid to low settings which is all you would need for a 2600xp.

As to case fans we need to know what case you have before recommending some fans. If you want several 80mm fans it might be worth instead getting a new cheap case. The antec slk3000b can be had for about £35 with lots of space and the 120mm fan that comes with it would be enough for keeping your rig cool and very quiet. Getting quiet 80mm fans and at the same time getting good airflow is always a major problem.

Yeah ive been looking at something like

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=98562

18db is gonna sound like pure bliss compared to my current Q-tec 650W (which id like to say has caused me absolutely no problems - rare indeed).

Im still checking out CPU fans and wondering whether or not to just get a complete system upgrade lol. Altho i didnt really fancy reinstalling stuff. Would i need to do a reformat if i got a larger CPU?

My case sucks, was a cheap one back when i built it.. ill look round for some nice ones and see what i think. In general 120mm fans are more quiet than 80mm right?

    Hey again. been case hunting.

    Does anyone have this case
    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=91721

Can you say whether or not the "chambers" actually reduce heat and noise, And just how quiet are those TriCool Fans.

On the laptop side could you wait another month or so?

Intel are about to bring out their dual core notebook cpus, shipping roughly early Feb: Core Duo is the name to look for.

With luck, when they come out, the current crop of laptops should drop in price if that's all you really need.

That Hiper is an excellent psu, very reliable and quiet. Quite a few people in these forums have the P180 case so a bit of searching should provide a fair bit of info on it. Those tricool fans are basically 120mm with a 3 speed switch so they can range from inaudible to pretty noticeable depending on how much air you want to shift. On lowest setting they are very quiet indeed.

    Update

Hey guys, i like to post a update to give views on stuff.

My Antec P-180, Hiper 580 T-R, Thermaltake BT arrived today (2 days early! from ebuyer)

    Good things to note:

The case is so damn nice, built with superb quality.
PSU just makes you go "whoah", seriously nice peice of equipment.
The Thermaltake is one huge ass fan lol, really surpised me when i saw it.
*** THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS SO FREKKIN QUIET ITS UNBELIEVABLE *** No really, its amazing.

    Bad things to note:

First up, when installing the BT H clip on the back. The clip covers one of the motherboard mounting holes (a really important one in this case - the one that stops the board from breaking cause of the strain of the BT). This could just be this perticular board, or might effect other Epoxs (i dont know). The fix i did was get out the saw and saw a notch in the corner of the H clip, hasnt (shouldnt) affect the strength of it at all.

Second, the damn PSU is so damn well built, that the power connectors prevent you using the fitted fan in the antec case, i had to take it out completely to fit the PSU in. Im not totally sure how this will affect the cooling of the PSU/HD... something to watch for. So at the moment the system is running with just the 2 standard fitted fans, both blowing air out. Chip is at 32 and case temp is 28 so it appears to of had no effect (or very little).

Also, when fitting the BT i had no idea how tight to tighten the bolts holding it on, i just kinda guestimated and tightened till it "felt" right. Is there any precise way to tell?

But yeah, the PSU/BT/Case fans are so damn quiet. If anyones looking to reduce noise, look no further id say.

    5 star equipment!
