    Nec 4550

    Hello,

I bought one of the above DVD-Writers OEM for my Dad to put in his computer, but now I've put the drive in, it's not recognising it. When I look on the NEC website, there's no sign of XP drivers for it, and the XP list of drivers doesn't mention DVD writers.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Oh and Merry Christmas.

May soon become Bah Humbug if this flipping thing doesn't work...

I don't know, actually. I've had a look in Device manager, and there's an unknown device there, but Windows says it doesn't need drivers, so I don't think it's that.

Embarrassingly, it was the master/slave jumpers; both drives were set to master...

KIds: Always check the master/slave jumper before asking for help...
