NF7 no post problem

After a series of Intel systems I finally put together an Athlon rig.

Abit NF7
Athlon XP1700+ JIUHB
2 x DDR400 in DIMM slots 3 & 2
Leadtek Geforce4 Ti4600

On the first power up all the fans came on but there was no POST. No beeps and nothing on screen.
So, I pulled one of the memory sticks and tried again. This time it POST'ed OK, I got a screen display and I went into BIOS.
The processor speed was shown as 11 x 100 so I changed this to 11 x 133. The only other thing I changed was the memory ratio which I changed to give DDR400. Then I hit F10 to save CMOS and exit. A message flashed up to not turn power off while saving CMOS then everything went blank.
I tried rebooting, no POST.
Cleared CMOS and tried again. No POST.

Anybody got any ideas what I did wrong?

Had a similar prob with one of these boards till i flashed the bios. Seemed to sort it.

try unplugging the psu (from the wall), plugging it back in, and hitting the on button... worked for me the other day :)

Hmm, how do you flash the BIOS if the computer won't even POST?

I'll try the PSU thing.

yep thats the fix do this mate. Should default to the last settings that work

steve is your t-bred maxed out at 2.2ghz? mine is currently 200x11.5 (2.3ghz) @ 1.7v, but i cant reach 2.4 stable :(..

anyhow good luck with the overclocking Ceefer once you've managed to POST :)

Try flashing the Cmos again. Try the del key thing (I think its that) on boot.

You mention reseating the mem, but not the main thing - the gfx card? Just unplug the hard drives and everything else completely.

A mate of mine had a similar problem with a barton 2500+ it turned out to be that the heatsink was on back to front! It would turn on, get too hot and turn off again. Once it was installed correctly it worked perfectly.

Might be far'fetched - but have you got a flopy drive connected? Some motherboards don't like POST'ing with out a flopy drive.

Otherwise - just ignore me and do what they said :P

Thanks for all the input to my problem. So far no success. I pulled everything apart and put it together again, changed memory sticks, tried different DIMM slots, cleared CMOS again and again, tried a different PSU etc etc. I think I'm going to have to send this one back to Redstore. I'm very disappointed cos I've been saving up to buy this mobo for ages and I was really looking forward to trying to hit some high FSB speeds.
Oh well, looks like my P4 is going to be my main system for a while longer.

No its not maxed out. It runs stable even on extremely hot summer days when many people have to underclock. I know i could push it a bit further with a better hsf (got a coolermaster x dream now) but i dont really need any extra speed. I dont often play games so im fine with it as it is.
