Ok - Can someone recommend or know of a modem that supports Caller Id in the UK? I done a search on google but only have some old ones referenced.
If its an internal soft modem - then I need linux drivers.
Help!

Yes - like to run ncid on my linux server. Theory is to have it broadcast to any computer I am using in the house (laptop/HTPC/desktop etc).
Apparently BT uses a different system to the a lot of other places and not a lot of modems support the BT system.
I might be wrong here, but i think the V.90/92 specification supports caller ID and any V.90/92 modem should work, you just need the right software. Like I said, I'm not 100% but I'm sure i remeber that being the case. Might be worth looking up
Cheers - I checked it out - but that standard allows for holding your isp connection whilst answering an incoming call. The issue seems to definitely be the ability of a modem to handle the standard of the telco to caller id. BT seems to have a different standard to the US Bellcore standard. And as far as I understand, this is different to what cable companies provide in the UK also.
Guess I need to continue looking. Any one else out there who have successfully done this?
CallerID for what?
All the computers i have used with windows have worked with caller ID for incoming faxes.

I want to have caller id available as I want to hook up the modem to my linux server (running ncid) - hence a proper modem and not a 'softmodem' - this then can broadcast out the info to any pcs I have running (especially the htpc).
Found one (for anyone that cares) - Its a US Robotics 56K Fax Modem. Model number is 64-245630-04 (think this is important - as I think I read the -01 is a US model). I have tested this works in YAC and with ncid in linux.
Not sure where you can buy it though - I borrowed this off my bro and won't be giving it back!
If its the serial port version, they are one of the best modems ever made. Pick em up on eBay quite cheap now.
