    I need a new PSU!!

Couple of reasons i'm going to be replacing my tagan 480 PSU - want a modular one, want a totally silent one. Any suggestions for running the following; A64 clawhammer, 2hdds, 1 dvd, gf7800gt

    Thanks!

580 is overkill, a 530W EasyCon should suffice..

I have the Enermax Liberty Series 620W, and I have to say it is the best powersupply I have ever owned. It is silent, has enough power for 4 computers () and has extremely stables voltages. Its basically perfect in all ways, but you do pay a premium :S

My 420w enermax is slightly loud. These silent seem to solve it slightly but is it worth parting the money

To be honest that psu should be more than capable of power the parts you listed. Perhaps go with the easycon that sawyen reccomended if the noise and modular cabling are important to you. A 500w seasonic would be the quietest option but they're not modular.

Its for reasons of silence really - trying to silence my annoying hsf as well, grrr - modular would be nice but silence is much more important.

Seasonic could be an option (is it likely to be quieter/noisier than the 17db 120mm fan ive got in my case?). I suppose i could always perform a little 'surgery'.

Whats the view of silent no fan psu's like this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=192066

    Trouble???

The seasonics are seriously quiet. When I bought mine I plugged it into a psu tester and thought it was broken only to look down and realise the fan was spinning, just couldn't hear it.

The db rating of fans is quite often misleading but the seasonic is bloody quiet, probably quieter than your case fans. As with the fanless psu i think it's a false economy on the noise front as with one of those you'll have to make sure you have excellent case cooling which will bring up the noise level anyway.

Do Seasonics work for socket A based system?

Also which would you say contributes greater noise, PSU or heatsink fan?

This is the basis of my thread really - getting noise down to absolute sensible minimum, and hopefully its possible to get a psu and a hsf that are pretty much silent

I recently bought a Seasonic. From a noise point of view, it is certainly a winner.
