    motherboard

    now that i pretty much have a opteron 146 cabne, im lking for a SLI mobo to put it in now im pretty sure i want a asus a8n standard mobo (i dont have any sata drives or nething but will look into getting a sata hdd or 2 in future) im not experienced with overclocking and dont need the dual lan. wondering if i would need to flash the bios? if so how would i do that ?

    also could any1 recomend a better sli mobo then that?

    my opteron 146 is comming in the post now and im about to order some stuff but i need help with is the asus a8n standard sli mobo need bios flashing for it? if so to the latest one? can some1 gimme a hand here thanks =p

    mm i was wondering the same thing but apparently if you board has the latest bios then it wont need flashing coz the opty have only been incorperated into recent bios?

    basically i need to know if my 939 opteron 146 will work on a asus a8n sli mobo and if it will need flashing to the latest bios?

    If you buy it now chances are it'll already be flashed with the latest BIOS.

    I think you can check ASUS' website where they say which CPU's can work with which Motherboard for a particular bios revision.

    Why not buy it anyway, and put the latest bios onto a floppy disk ready for flashing the MB?

    That way you'll have the bios whether you need it or not.

    they say that the a64 is supported etc but im wondering would it say opteron supported if it was supported or is opteron just another name like venice and san diego?

    the Opteron 146 uses a San Diego core - if the board's BIOS supports rev E CPUs you'll be OK.

    no opteron isnt a core name its a chip name like fx or sempron i have a 144 coming tmoz and i have an an8-sli so i will have the same prob or not as the case may be if i do need the neew bios how do i do it?

    earliest shipping BIOS on Abit AN8 SLIs was 13 which has Rev E support.

    the ASUS A8N SLI was out well before the AN8 SLI but as Rev E CPUs have been out for over 6 months unless yours is an old board that's been lying around forever then you should be OK.
