Can anyone tell me if the Shuttle SN25P AMD Socket 939 Barebone System is compatible with the Radeon X1800XT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card

The reason I ask is because the Video card I mentioned is double wide... and I dont knoe if the PCI-E slot is in the the right place to accomodate it..

Yes, it works great. The only thing is you have to leave the CPU cooler shroud off. Works better without it anyway though, so it's not a problem at all.

The Shuttle SN25P is the best!

Actually can I impose on you to check out my list of items I'm going to purchase for my SN25P System to make sure I'm getting all compatible stuff?

There are TWO video cards on the list because I want sure if the 512mb card was supported... which I now know it is.

Looks good, but I'd modify a couple of things:

1) The CPU you chose is an older core. It will work fine but the Venice core is $5.00 cheaper and is much better. The best deal though is to spend another $15.00 or so and get the 3700+ San Diego. With the extra cache you'll be miles ahead.

2) The drive you chose is pricey and I've heard some bad things about them. You may want to consider two 250GB SATAII Seagates in RAID 0. Much faster and $130.00 or so cheaper.

If you mount both hard drives in the top you'll have room for a floppy, which is helpful when loading RAID drivers and such.

I think setting up the two drives striped might be *slightly* out of my comfort zone (I wouldnt know where to start really ha ha ha) so I may stuck with just two volumes

Having said that, the Raid 0 intregues me. Maybe I'll do a little research on how Id set that up...

Sadly newegg doesnt carry the 250gb Seagate... only the 160 and the 500. Hm. maybe the seagate 160 in a raid 0 if I can figure that out.

I'd stay away from Maxtor. Stick with Western Digital or Seagate.

A pair of Seagate 160's would give you 320GB of storage. If you RAID 0 three of them that would give you a 480GB array close to 3 times as fast as the 500GB for less money. Of course you wouldn't have room for a floppy.

I suggest just two drives in a RAID 0 array and an internal floppy. Just make a thread and I'll be happy to walk you through setting up the array. It is very simple on the Shuttle. They even put the RAID drivers on a floppy for you.
