AHH! i've half shagged my bios :(

hi, i have an msi k8tneo & a mobile sempron chip (athlon mobile 2800 skt754. don't go there; just believe me it is!) . it sort of worked (in correctly recognised chip & put multiplyer to half!) so thought flash bios. being a chicken i thought i'd use live update as it's all done through windows. BIG mistake; on reboot get 1 beep, then 2 then 1. an error message appears saying cmos settings wrong. i have choice of entering setup but then i just get monitor on standby when it starts up after exiting bios regardless of setting changes. alternatively, i can load standard settings & then the board will boot. i tried reflashing through live update again but just the same. any suggestions? thanks, rich.

Another vote for a full shag, i never trust flashing in windows. The main thing id you still seem to have the system stable enough after a fashion to flash it with a boot floppy or use any flashing utlity that might be part of the bios like in the asus boards.

Actually probably better just to use a boot floppy and utility since the bios is a little screwy.

Did you clear the CMOS by the MB Jumpers after yr windows flash? that sometimes helps Otherwise YEh olde traditional flash of putting the bios on diskette. Finally if that dont work contact MSI and they will probably ask you to send them yr Bios chip for them to flash.

I reset my bios with live update on my MSI K8 series, and it didn't work. Reset the jumpers, though, and all should be fine!

The only time I have ever flashed via windows was with my abit nf7-s, was totally safe you just had to do it twice. To the OP, I would make a floppy with the bios, load fail safes and flash back to the old bios

I had exactly the same problem with a new MSI bios update the other week (went from 1.9 to 2.1 BIOS version I think) - I had a NEO platinum something or other. Completely buggered my PC and I ended up buying a new MOBO. Sort of glad I'm not the only one (and sort of not).
