Stock Opteron cooler compatibility

Hello people,

Could someone let me know if it is wise or possible to use a stock opteron 144 cooler on my old 2700+ xp processor to save expending the extortionate amount of money involved with buying a new cooler (I know they're cheap really). The reason I ask is that I am in the process of upgrading and have some spare bits with which to build up a nice little second PC, but my old 2700+ cooler makes a bit of a racket and the mrs doesn't like it!!

I'd appreciate any advice on this

Opteron = S939
AMD XP = Socket A

They're different sockets so I'm afraid not.
