    I'm looking for a laptop.........

    ............but i don't know what i want!

Budget upto £500, maybe more, but i'll start there.

I'm up to speed with desktop specs eg what performs for what etc. But i'm lost on laptops, as i've never had one before.

I'd be looking to do the following; watch dvd's, web browse, maybe app's like paint shop pro, photoshop, but nothing serious.

So i'd like a large widescreen (14" or 15") but i'm lost on CPU options (do i need something 'M') and wireless would be a bonus, as would a DVDRW.

I'm looking at Dell, but only as i dont know what else to buy?

    Any help appreciated.

I believe that the AMD Turion cpus are pretty good but I don't think you’re going to get one for around £500. I have seen a few celeron m, sempron and possibly pentium m laptops for around the £500 mark, most of them come with dvdrw drives now as well.

I was thinking of this one (okay£650 inc vat)

Also seen some acer aspire with turion cpu at ebuyer, but i would like to see and collect the laptop for that price.

So am i right in thinking celeron-m is beaten by pentium-m and turion, but the last two are very close on performance, eg pentium-m 740 and turion mt30.

celeron like in all ppentium ranges beans buget bottom of the range. Authout the turion and pentium m are quite close the M comes out better (with heat, battery use) than a similar spec turion. I would chose pentium m anyday (even tho im a bit of an amd fan but not really)

I've ended up with a turion machine, for a lot less than any pentium m machines i could find, and i'm happy with it.

    Thanks for your help.
