Upgrading RAM from 1GB to 2GB

I am thinking of going from 1GB to 2GB of RAM, but I have some questions.

1. If I get a 1GB stick of RAM, and add it to the 2x512's in there now, I'll lose the dual channel. Will an increase in size be better than dual channel?

2. Am I going to actually see an increase in performance at all really? I play games like BF2 and CS:Source, that's mainly what I use the comp for.

By the way here are the specs:

Pentium 4 3.0GHz Socket 478
Asus P4P800-X mobo
2 x Corsair 512mb PC3200 Dual Channel
Leadtek 6600GT AGP

Should I get another 1GB stick or save the money for something else?

I would think more ram is better than dual channel. But dual channel is nice to have.

You will definatly in BF2, very very smooth .

i have 2x256mb and 1 x 512mb sticks of elixir ddr400 on an asus a7n8x-e and it still works in dual channel not sure about your mobo. i bought the 512mb stick a few months after 2 so its not same batch but same brand/spec

sell the 2x512, and buy 2x1gb, will cost you pennies more.
