    Overclockable 939 Motherboard

Ok, I'm looking for a Socket 939 motherboard. It has to have (on top of the USB2, IDE etc that all of them have) SATA 3GB and PCI-E. I'll buy a motherboard with SLi on it if it is the better motherboard for the money, but I wouldn't give an extra brass farthing for it to be added to my board, as it won't be used.

I'll be getting an Opteron 144/146 processor, so overclocking is important. I need a board that will stabily take the chip as far as it will go. Also, as the memory will be PC3200, it obviously needs FSB:Mem dividers. Do all/most boards have this? The Asus website, as an example, only seems to directly mention it on its most expensive boards.

Budget is around £55-£60. This is the ex-VAT price, and it basically has to be from Scan.co.uk, as I'm getting the rest of my stuff from there, and if it is from anywhere else the shipping to N Ireland adds quite a %.

So, there you go. Thanks to everybody who contributed to my general thread. This is on a specific point, so I thought it warranted its own topic.

How about a Foxconn?, £62.05. here is the manufacturers web page. Seems to cover all the bases you are after.
I believe most boards allow for use of mem divider, htough from some reviews not the best of clockers.
There's also the ASrock dual sata 2, which people have done fairly well with I believe.

Abit AN8-SLi is closest at £75, i cant see the AN8 ultra listed at scan though.

I got an AN8-SLi from scan and run my opteron at 3Ghz 24/7, so i've no complaints about them.

i've got the AsRock dual sata 2 board and it seems a bit unstable with 1T command timings. only place i've had problems is with internet explorer (just randomly resetting the pc when going to new websites) and it's fairly sporadic - but it's definitely the command timings that seem to do it. memory is corsair PC3200 CP2 matched pair (2 x 512 MB), so the memory shouldn't be an issue...

Quote from review on the Foxconn "Mediocre overclocker".
" Overclocking the Foxconn board was something we were looking forward to, especially since we finally observed some much needed options. This didn't happen, since we could never get the board to run solid enough to finish a set of benchmarks at anything above 210Mhz. We know that this particular processor will do 2700, but we didn't even come close even after hours, upon hours of toggling through BIOS adjustments."

Seemed great in all other ways, but it does seem to be missing the FSB:Memory divider.
TBH, I'm having trouble finding anything fitting my specs under £67, never mind £55.

Looking at http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2524&p=8 the Asrock doesn't look too bad at all But, it's AGP and PCI-E, SATA 3GB, a decent overclocker, and £37. There's gotta be a catch somewhere, right?
I quite like the idea of the Asrock, as it would give me the options of getting the 7800GT now or keeping my 9800 and getting the (wild guess) x1900xl with my bonus in April.

Abit AN8-V or KN8 Ultra depending upon how you feel
    ASUS A8N-E
    MSI K8N Neo4 .
Gigabyte's nF4 series is probably OK too although I know less about them.
Any of above should do you.

I'm down to either the Abit KN8 Ultra or the Asus A8N-E.
Anybody have any opinions/comments on one vs the other?

I think DFI are a trifle out of my price range (seem to generally be around £90-£120)

Definitely a vote for the Abit here. My AN8 Ultra, which I'll be selling in a day or two, takes my Opty upto 3ghz & beyond. See Here

Ditto. Id probly lean towards the Abit and Asus as my first choice.

The Jetway seems to be one of the best overclockers, but I don't think it has SATA 3Gb.

Maybe you'd like to dabble with one of the new ATI 480 chipset mobos? They seem to be targetted at the enthusiast and they're decent in the oc department.

SLI one at £73 and non-SLI at £112, bit beyond me really, as the A8N SLis are there for that price range, IMO.
