Gigabyte i-ram II uses DDR2 and SATA300

Since DDR2 is getting so damn cheap they decided to use DDR2 instead of DDR1 for the next revision. Upgrading the battery capacity and speed to SATA300, increase ram slots from 4 to 8 AND also abandoning the PCI design and move to 5.25" Bay

That would be freaking awesome, get 4 i-ramII with a 1GB stick on each, you get 4GB of insane fast storage. (SATA300 RAID0 = 1.2GB/s)

with STR equal to 32 HDDs in RAID0, and also random seek time in nanoseconds, it'll practically eliminate HDD from bottleneck.

Insanely fast storage for what ? The OS ? It will be insanely expensive to put my game on to those, and except for serious purpose like simulation thing from sawyen i cant see any common application to benefit (financial wise)

And they should of used the pciexpress bus, first company to do that will have something FAST on their hands. ie 1 pci epxress lane is almost as fast as a SATA 300MB/s, even an sli system has 4 spare, thats 1GB/s.

What's the latency like for PCIe compared to SATA though?

Going through SATA makes it far more conventional and users are likely to have more free SATA channels than PCIe. (In terms of what's accessible - don't most non-sli boards have 1 16x and 1x, with the x16 used for the gfx card?)

no idea, but considering gfx cards use it it can't be too shabby

I think something like this would be used by enthusiasts, and reckon most enthusiast boards have a bit more than a x16 and a x1. My board has a x16 x2 x1 x1 (I think) or x8 x8 x4 is SLI is enabled.

does anyone know what the wattage required for 1 stick of 1gb ddr2 is i know it opperates at 1.8v

now all i need is a silent form of phase change or atleast watercool the phase change rads !
