I get tempted....we all do
So the Nforce 2 board has this baby at XP2600+..but WOULD I be betterwith a 2500+ and some more overclocking?
Gaming etc.
Go on...you all LOVE this kind of debate...me too

I would say if you cant get a nice 1700 to do 2.2 (2.4 when my watercooling rig is complete muhahaha), then get a 2500
Go for the 1700, great CPU`s.
I HAVE a 1700XP......right model etc
Its an ASUS A7N8X (first version) and it DOES NOT DO over 180 fsb.
I had that Mushkin PC3500 and even THAT stopped at 185. So Im back at 1 gig of Sexual Twin Mos at 166/333 Cas 2 6-2-2.
Rock ard like that. SK6 and a YS tech cooling.
12.5x166 (max multilpier setting available) and the mem is stable and safe at that.
Its WHY I wondered.
Vid card......I got a beaut. Rad9800 Pro (Hexus review sample, goes like a ROCKET)
The reason I was wondering....was cos I was gonna try to get involved in compressing some DVD tracks (although I have NO IDEA how) from some WW2 related disks I have.
I got the dough for a chip...just dont wanna buy it and cry after

Still it's o/c'ing perf that I'm sure you're most interested in and the Barton will give you about 5% extra perf at the same clock speed as well as being likely to exceed 2.1ghz. Is it worth it? It' up to you, gains are there but as mentioned by Agent a lot depends upon what mobo, gfx and even RAM and HSF you are currently using.
EDIT: I was too slow. 12.5x180=2.25ghz so not achieving 400FSB (2x200) is nothing you should let limit you or your CPU o/c. If your TbredB can't do this then a Barton should and will surely at least equal the 2.08ghz your TbredB is currently achieving but with 5% faster overall speed (effectively then an XP2700+). It should only cost you £40ish after selling your TbredB so it seems worth a try. Did your TbredB top out at 2.08ghz or did you just want to keep everything in spec?

good reply.
If 5% is all it doesntrock my boat
Any other bids ?

Right...I HAD this chip at 12.5 x 180=2250 (512mg Mushkin) and it wasn't much faster than at 12.5x166 (1 gig Twin Mos).......and so me and Knoxxy swapped .
I now have 1gig of the 166 gear. This chip would go higher, but not the mobo cos this multiplieris maxed at 12.5 on this cpu. I aint fiddling anymorewith it...its too nice.
The reason for the XP2500 idea was more cache and LOWER mulitplier settings for equiv speed ratings.....well...hopefully
So I am on 12.5x166 at the mo.....if an XP2500 at SAME speeds is possible WITH the higher cache etc......SHOULD I ?

I have a XP1700+ in my A7N8X @ 2.3Ghz at the moment I keep getting tempted to get the Barton and even if It only goes to 2.2Ghx it would still be more powerful than the XP1700+
The only thing that is putting me off is that they are not guaranteed to clock as well as the XP1700+ are they? And they will produce more heat than the XP1700+

Stick with what you've got m8, or sell the Motherboard and put some cash towards an NF7-S

IIRC you have to voltage mod the A7N8X to get it to be able to go much above 180fsb, it *should* get to 200, but it's obviously a bug that they had to move to the v2.0 board to fix.
I'll have a looky for the linkage if you're interested

I have a REV 1.04 A7N8X and have had it at 217FSB stable I think it's just pot luck whether your pre v2.0 will do the 200FSB the 1004 bios claims to does.
