    NAS Storage.

    Hi guys,

    Basically I'm looking at the Maxtor 300gb networked drive and the Buffalo 250gb networked drive. The buffalo drive can be run as an FTP server and also has wireless functionality (my router is the netgear WGT624 model) plus it can act as a print server (the maxtor can, but isn't wireless and the printer is no where near the router). Has anyone got an experience with these drives? I think I've decided on the Buffalo as PC Pro also gave it the "recommended" award, so that's one good thing.

    I have no idea what the rule is about competitors (maybe I should check, heh), but here's a link to both drives;

    Buffalo - http://www.pcpro.co.uk/labs/81385/bu...hdh250lan.html

    Maxtor - http://www.pcpro.co.uk/labs/81390/ma...age-drive.html

    The Buffalo Linkstation is extremely hackable, there is a bunch of stuff out there on the different hardware version and how to get custom software installs running on it.

    I don't really know anything about the maxtor unit tbh

    So you'd recommend the linkstation? Is it reliable?

    Yep - I've heard nothing but bad things about that.

    We've had both come through us at work.

    Netgear - a glorified external HDD, network connectivity is a joke and you have to install drivers to use it on any computer!

    Buffalo - just awesome. What you expect for NAS really.
