harddrive and mobo compat

I have got all my components thru for making my new system but im wondering if i use this hdd on my new system but format it before i put it on a new mobo with it be alright? cuz i know that there can be problems if i change the mobo and the hdd is alrdy installed with os etc

The problems with moving HDDs to new motherboards are always linked to the OS and drivers that are installed on the HDD, never to the HDD itself.

So if you reformat, everything will be fine. Just make sure you backup everything you want to keep first.

BTW are you the Destroyer from the [+BiO+] CS clan ?

Don't just format. Delete and create a new partition, then format it.

It's always best to creat the partition on the drive controller that will be controlling the drive.

can u explain storm? dont i just need to boot up with windows xp disk in there and have changed the bios to boot from cd rom? then follow the windows xp installer delete the partions which deletes the info from hdd right? and then install windows?

I think that should do it.

I was having problems with a HD this week - kept saying the drive fails although it could be formatted in windows.

I followed the above and it worked on another motherboard, so not sure if it was the motherboard.

i have to put together:

opteron 146 cabne 0545+ arctic freezer 64
asus a8n sli deluxe
1gb dual channel geil 2.5-6-3-3
6800 gs
tagan 2force 530W
coolmaster centurion 530

from my pc atm:

maxtor 120gb pata hdd
samsung cd/cd-wr
samsung DVD

this should all be compatable right? and btw i brought the asus a8n sli deluxe less thena weeka go would i have the latest bios on it that will know the opteron 146 ?

I always move my HDDs around and they work fine. The only thing is, the OS on the HDD wouldn't run on any other system.

And if you use dynamic disk, once you moved the disk onto another system and init-ed, when you put it back to the old mahcine it won't work.

But if you don't want the old OS then you can just move it to another computer fine
