Whilst I sit here (impatiently) awaiting the delivery of my Dell 2405 monitor I have started to wonder whether my system will keep up in many games at the screens native resolution (1920x1200?)

I was wondering who has one for gaming? what games do you play? what kind of framerates you get? and what spec PCs you are running these on?

Quake 4, Ultra detals 1600 x 1200, 4 x AA (SMP enabled) above 30FPS but have to lower AA to 2 x in multiplayer (widescreen config in options)

CoD 2: Over 30 FPS constant which is enough for this game, 1920 x 1200, full details, 4 x AA

CS:S - over 100FPS constant, Max settings, 1920 x 1200, 4 x/16 x HDR enabled

Dod: S over 70FPS constant, Max settings, 1920 x 1200, 4 x/16 x, HDR enabled

F.E.A.R: 1920 x 1200 with 2 x AA, no soft shadows, all else on max - plays nicely over 30FPS, but still unsure whether 1680 x 1050 is a bit better gameplay experience with 4 x AA

Its worth noting I've OC'd the GPU to 630/1830

I ain't gonna stand a chance playing games at 1920x1200 on my setup.....whens the GeForce 8 out?

That might be able to play 1920 x 1200 in CS:S I reckon with 4 x AA and F.E.A.R. @ 1920 x 1200 with maybe a few details tweaked/lowered?

If you're meaning the next nvidia core, the G71 - it should be out Feb/March, but some rumours are reporting it could even be the end of Jan if everything goes right for nvidia.

Trying to stay away from SLI tbh. Don't like the idea of multiple gfx cards plus the associated power and heat issues. Plus the 2nd card only seems to add ~33% at best....hmmm.

Although that may be my only option

Will see if I can wait until the X1900 reviews start appearing...... /sigh Why cant I win the lottery?

Well, I have sucked it up based on tips and benchies and gone for another 7800GT to SLI.

Anandtech had the deciding benchmarks here .....first time I have seen benchmarks of such high screen resolutions and at those sizes you are getting almost a full 100% extra out - very impressive indeed.

Now lets hope I can play WoW at > 20-40 FPS again

I play Star Wars Battlefront II on my setup, and it plays beautifully at my native 1680 x 1050, all effects on full. I'm sure it will have a setting for your resolution (i am guessing), if not then you can scale it. Either way, it's native widescreen and lovely to look at (PS best Star Wars flying simulator yet made as well as a decent FPS).

It'll run games at a lower res mate like 1440 x 960. The monitor has a choice of scaling:

1:1, Fill and aspect.

Its ok - stretching 1440 x 996 will still look pretty nice

Did you consider the 2005FPW if you have a 6800GT and can't afford a new graphics card/cards?
