Intel Extreme 955 vs AMD FX-60

Now the 2 reviews are out which do you think is the better processor and if you had the cash which would you buy?

It would be good for hexus to compare the 2 processors when overclocked as the 955 can reach 4.26Ghz (0.9Ghz jump) on air with the standard cooler and the FX-60 can hit 2.8Ghz (0.2Ghz jump).

Hexus has the FX-60 just ahead, but as an AMD customer (and with an AMD bias) since my first pc I actually think the 955 is the better processor. The process technology, virtualization and 4MB L2 cache all swing me toward intel and its better feature set along with crazy overclocking. Looking at the benchmarks the results are pretty close.

    What do you guys think?

I'm not sure if the crazy oc will help Intel much, the basic problem with Intel is that as long as there is still a memory bottleneck it'll get its ass kicked. And the FX-60 is more efficient in term of power -> less heat -> less noisy on air.

Virtualization: the tech is there, but application is rarer than hen's teeth.
4Mb cache: afaik it increase latency without any substantial benefit.
    Primary kit:

I'm a gamer so it just has to be the FX-60 all the way

Bit-Tech said they could get an easy 3.0GHz on stock with a bit more volts so this baby's easily gonna get up to 3.4GHz on half decent cooling

I do sometimes power-use programs, but not to the extent that I use up all the power that my dual 2.8GHz X2 cores can give me

    FX-60 FTW!*

*I reserve the right to reserve judgement on Intels next gen

If you look at the benchmarks the memory bandwith performance is similar as intel is using a 1066Mhz FSB.

Athlon is more efficient on power though, but I think virtualization is a technology which will be widely used so your future proofing yourself a bit more with the 955.

Also ive heard that 5GHz and above is achievable with the 955 with water cooling.

It's very close. AMD still has it for gaming IMO but I wouldn't say no to either

i think we will have to wait until the next generation of intel cpu's before we see anything that will best AMD's current offering and by then AMD's M2 should be out and i'm hoping that will still ass master what ever intel comes up with. With that said my vote would go for the AMD FX60 for the reasons people have already stated above.
