Funnily enough I went back to look for this keyboard yesterday. Still not found a new one I'm happy with. Was looking at the diNovo Edge, then thought £150? How much did that Optimus work out to be... ah, still nothing then. There's expectant "release date imminent" threads all over the web from the beginning of 2005!
BUT
The first company to get them in, like Scan, will sell loads and loads. There's a lot of interest in this - and some great ideas. Blank it with a keysaver (like a screensaver) and have the keys only come on when you type in the right password. Flash "HANDS OFF" messages on it when you're not there. Have the keys move downwards like the Matrix...
It needs to be bright, comfortable and use very little CPU cycles, and cost no more than £150 and it'll make a total killing.

A bit of info in this blog. They are no longer using OLED's for the screen but are using 'one of the passive matrix LCD technologies'. Also, each key will be replaceable.
It also says: 'It may be worth noting that our full-fledged keyboard went into production cycle about a month ago. We are going to start accepting pre-orders around December 2006 with shipping date after Spring 2007.'
Pimp My Keyboard!
I'm with DavidM, if I didn't have a G15 (or 2) I'd get one. They look really really nice and the posibilities are virtually endless with something like this.
Special needs students could benefit greatly from this and as others have said, specialist markets like Pro A/V and film work would be some of the places I can see it working. You'd be suprised at how much compaines will spend to reduce workload and increase productivity. But I can see it becoming like a Raptor X HDD, you don't really need it but you know you want it.
"I've heard there is a common problem with this item from forums" - If you read some forums they believe Elvis was abducted by aliens, doesn't mean it's true.
Even with the switch to LCD this is still going to be costly.
Specialist keyboards go for around $100. I can see good demand for this if they can keep the price down to around 3-4 times that, though I suspect it will be more.
They have a new product being launched this week - Upravlator - dunno what it is but great for audio, video editors and graphic designers, apparently.
And the keys on the full-size board are now only going to be 32x32 pixels? That's quite limiting - can't even get much readable text in there.

great idea for a keyboard though and I suspect mainly sales will be for specialist activities, rather than for general use as mentioned. I could certainly see it working well for s/ware products that have non-windows styled UI's that are not immediately pick-up and use for the average joe/jane
big bump for this thread:
Optimus 103 pricing announced: $1200
