    CPU Fan Error

Rite, i received my DVD-RW drive that i ordered a few days ago, i done the usual and installed it in my PC. Upon boot i got a horrible series of beeps coming from my PC, and it was displaying the message on screen "your CPU Fan speed is to low". I intered the bios only to find out it was at 700RPM (thank god its still running). And my error message is set to come up at anything lower than 1200RPM. I booted into windows and watched speedfan for a bit. it Still says its going about 900RPM.

Why is this? Whats a good speed for a CPU fan.

EDIT: Its stock fan, and cool and quiet is enabled.

Any chance you've lifted the fan cable from the header on the mobo? Have any cables moved during installation of the DVD drive and now interferring with the fan itself?

I would think that if the header was lifted the fan wouldn't run, and certainly wouldn't report back it's RPM - my money is on a PSU not pushing enough juice, or a fan on it's way out - you getting any grinding sounds?

Was thinking that maybe it lifted from the header so only resting on it, not that it's been disconnected completely, which as you say, would stop the sense line reporting any fan speed back to the BIOS

Just seems odd that it's working one day, and not the next. First point of call is to eliminate the obvious (however trivial) which would be related to the installation of the DVD drive. Just my 2-penneth though

    Same problem on same MOBO

I had exactly the same problem with 'Fan speed too low' warning on the same ASUS mobo. I have had it once this week - no new hardware installed running XP Home.

The fan was running but slower than usual - I have the same default warning speed.

I checked two mins later and the speed was normal. I disabled QFan support and have not had problem since then. I am unsure if there is a connection with QFan but I do not want a burned out San Diego 3700!

I also have had a driver/ GFX card problem see my other thread:

    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=65313

This has all happened very recently and my machine does not always shut down. It always shows a process running called 'remote.exe'.

I am wondering if the MOBO is playing up at a chipset level.
