    s939 or wait for AM2?

    s939 or wait for AM2?

If wait, what are the benefits (if any)?

Whats the system going to be used for ?

Keep in mind that when M2 comes out, it'll be at a premium. You can pick up 939 stuff up pretty cheaply, all things considering.

If you need a computer then waiting is stupid. If you don't, then why wait for a better one? Either way waiting is a bad idea.

If you wait, you are always waiting on something. You should try and keep core components, case/psu/hd/graphics/ram, it means you only need to change motherboard/cpu, which is what I do, although the change from agp to pci-express, meant a new card and in M2 case, it will be DDR2, so new ram too. Plus new stuff is notorious for bugs. Get what you can now, bearing in mind what you will be able to take over to M2, and when you are ready for m2, sell the 939 kit.

Use 939 for now, and buy M2 something like 2-3 months after it comes out, for the price to go down. Or you can start saving now lol

Wait for AM2 to come out and be ridiculously expensive, and get some cheapo Socket 939 stuff.

So far as I can tell, the only major difference is DDR2, so if you have DDR RAM now, you could probably save a fair bit of money without a huge performance impact.

    Wot Mike said.

I've just splashed out on new 939 system.

Before Christmas I thought, "I'll get a new system in the January sales".
Then January became Easter, the summer when by and as the leaves fell and Christmas approached I thought, "I'll definately get a new system in the January sales".
But again, January became Easter, the summer when by and as the leaves fell and Christmas
approached I thought, "No way am I waiting any longer. I don't care how good M2 is going to be."

s939 is about as mature as it will get. M2 will have a premium price tag and use more expensive ddr2 memory. S939 supports dual core cpu's so they'll be no problem upgrading in the near future. Go s939 and enjoy your shiney new pc.

Intel's new Core Due chips look hot stuff, I'd wait awhile and let Intel and AMD sweat it out on the run up to Windows Vista being released.

M2 is gonna use a new 940 pin socket. Price will be high and expect 939 to hang on in there for a year or so.

The ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 offer potential expansion to a M2 port, it also offers true AGP and PCI-ex.

Buy a decent cheap 939 and keep you options open, the other side of it is Processor's make less of a difference to gaming that GPU's do.

i totally agree with tungst3n, i bought the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 to keep my options open, i got a good price on an Opteron 146 as well so quite happy to use this for the time being. If you hang on for M2 it will be good but pricey, and guaranteed as soon as M2 is released something better will be in the pipeline. Might as well get some 939 now and have done with it

I don't expect there to be much performance difference on the new motherboards therefore it's not worth waiting for imo. I took a mid range single core 939 on the ASrock Dual 939 with a 7800GT. Job done for now and cheap enough I can do it again in 12-18 months or maybe just get away with an upgrade to dual core X2 and a faster GPU. Why wait when you can get solid performance reasonably priced now. Early silicon is always bugged with problems sometimes it takes more than a bios flash to fix it.
