DFI NF4 Expert and Maze4 GPU Block

Hi guys,

I'm wanting to get the DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR EXPERT mobo and want to watercool my 7800gtx with a maze4.. does anyone know if the ram slots on the expert get in the way of the rods and thumbscrews that are used to fix the maze4 to the gpu?

Cheers fella but I've tried there already and I can't seem to get an answer from anyone with an ounce of a clue to the riddle that's been posed!

All I get is people saying that the RAM modules aren't no where near the block and it should be fine with the CPU clearance... Which isn't the case with the Expert!

I was a bit confused until i reread your original post about the screw fixings and rods.

It looks to me like the lower rod is right at the inboard end of the pcie slot and so shouldn't affect the ram. The higher rod is almost certainly above the height of a ram stick. The exact placement should vary but I wouldn't think it will be a problem.

If you look at the picture of the board you have enough clearance between the pcie slot and the ram slots to shorten the rods to just the right length for the thumbscrews. I would find where the holes are on your 7800gtx and see if they line up to the side and above the ram slots to confirm it.

If you're really bothered about it there are 7800 specific waterblocks about that should do a much better job than the maze 4 and will probably have smaller rods/screws.

I have an expert & 2 7800gts so I'll take a look later and see how it'll all approx lines up as I want to do the same thing.

Right just lined it up & the rod & brass nut sits in the gap between the two ram banks and clears the capacitor too.

Having a read on the DFI-Street forums and there seems to be quite a few people having problems with cold boots and dual channel memory... how are you finding the expert?

A real pain in the bum to be honest. My Abit AN8 Ultra was much nicer, the Opty I have in now used to do 3.0ghz now it will only do 2.5ghz with this board.

My Seasonic S12 blew up as soon as I plugged it in, that was before I'd even hit the power button! (There are know issues with DFI NF4 boards & Seasonic S12 psu's).

Upgrading the bios to 12/7 caused all sorts of woes like ps2 mouse not working on every other reboot & on after a shut down it won't power on unless I flick the switch on psu to off for a few seconds.

Not all bad though as an Opty I just sold would only do 2.7ghz in the AN8 but would do 3.0 ghz in this board. Go figure, I sold the wrong one!!

So basically I'm waiting for my Seasonic to be rma'd before I can really fettle & fine tune this board. Or alternatively give up & rma the board. Typical bloody DFI behaviour really.!!!

Hmmm seems to be quite common that cold boot problem!

From what I've seen so far it's luck of the draw as to which expert your gonna get... a good one will work flawlessly and overclock like a dream, or a bad one that causes no end of problems and sleepless nights!

Not sure whether to go for the expert or the original SLI-DR!

Well I wanted the Expert due to the layout as I was going to watercool it. I'm hoping that a decent bios will take care of most of the problems, however DFI aren't know for producing good bioses.

With regards to the overclock abiltiies of my board it's really wierd because it'll run a 300fsb no trouble, I just have to lower the multiplier to bring the speed down to around 2.5ghz. i.e. 312x8. Yet previously this cpu would run 300x10 @ 1.575v in the Abit
