Really annoying DVD problem

I have a Hermes 845GV system that I have added a Gefroce 6200 card to (PCI) not express.

The problem I have is that when I have this card in, everything including games works fine.....except DVD playback.

If I use any DVD playback program, it locks up, and the CPU usgae goes up to 100% but I get no DVD playback.

It works fine with the onboard video (if I disable video out), but nothing at all with the add in card...any ideas?

The onboard video is disabled in BIOS and no drivers are installed for it....

Driver issue? Have you got the latest drivers for the DVD player & Graphics card?

What OS are you using? If it's Win9x (inc ME) you probably should try booting in Safe Mode and removing the old GPU.

Also is the DVD playback using hardware or software acceleration?

I have the latest drivers...its XP..

Disabling/removing the old device is not the issue as this happens on a brand new XP install where the onboard GFX drivers have never been installed.....

I'm a little confused. You say you have a PCI graphics card. Are you sure? I wouldn't have thought they made 6200 in PCI. If it's actually AGP, then you might try changing the aperture.

Definately PCI not AGP not PCI Express....spent a long time finding this in PCI...

I can't remember much about PCI Gfx cards, they're so long ago. I have one for testing bootups, but that's it.

My guess is that you have a resource conflict with your PCI slots. First try removing any other PCI cards. If that does the trick then you have to test different places/combinations. If you have no other PCI cards, or removing them doesn't help, then try changing the gfx card slot.
