    Super Computer/Low FPS HELP!!

Hi, 1st, my system is P4 2.8GHz, ATI 9800 pro, 1GB RAM, 865G Neo2-S motherboard. I have all the latest drivers for my graphics card and motherboard, but Im obtaining rates of 45 fps (no anis/anti) instead of 55+ On Comanche 4 Benchmark test. Could anyone tell me what might be causing this?

Make sure that your graphics settings are set for performence and not quality.

You should be able to run in Quality mode with that setup. Are you certain you are at 2.8ghz and 800FSB? Your RAM is running synced and in Dual Channel mode right? If you didn't do a fresh OS install when upgrading some of your kit there could be an underlying problem there. You could ensure VSYNC is always set to DISABLED as it caps your FPS to around 80% of your refresh rate (60Hz default?) in order to prevent screen tearing. What makes you think you should be at 55+ instead of 40? If it was a review they were probably disabling sound to run the game as well as using a completely fresh OS install, not what you want to do. It is very strange and I doubt any of the above will help but that's my best guess.

Im a bit of a beginner when it comes to computers so dont pound me with tech talk! lol

Erm, I ran the benchmark at 60hz, performance settings, v-sync dis, 1024x768x32. And came out with 46.77 FPS

I dont know how to check the FSB with my processor, in system it just says

    Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
    2.83Ghz
    1.00GB of RAM

I dont know how to change the RAM sync and dual channel thingy so help!

Ive just installed windows professional like a day ago, all the hardware is new.

There is something Im not doing right.

if you CPU over heats it may throttle as David said, check the temp of it, should be below 65*c - ideally below 50*c ( check it after you run the test, when it will be hotter )

I have the core centre program, which tells me the temp of everything. And my cpu never goes over 60oC.

I dunno, my computer is strange. I think it might be my processor

run something like 3dmark2001se (have a look on google, i might find you a link if i can ), then run that, it'll give a good idea of whether something is up or not

Check memory set up in BIOS you might have it set by SPD (maybe a lot slower than the ram can handle) and check the RAM ratio it might not be at 1:1, etc.

    Then lock the AGP/PCI ratios
and turn set the FSB to manual and change it to 214Mhz to give you a nice even 3Ghz!

I have AIM for instant messaging same name as in here.

1st you need to find out what type of ram you have so we know how fast to set it. If you dont know you can run a program or open the case and look at stickers on the ram. Message back the numbers, etc..

When your computer is booting hit delete to enter BIOS. Look around at BIOS settings. For now dont do anything. But when we do stuff you're going to change the settings from auto to manual then we will set the memory timings, fsb, agp/pci, etc.

    http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.html?i=1820&p=4

DOWNLOAD MSI's CORE CELL Windows Overclocking utility.
Supposedly you can overclock from Windows with out going in to BIOS. This may be easier for a novice. (I prefer BIOS overclocking personally)

well chris, after a bit of twiddling around in bios, I set the performance level to ultra turbo , put the voltages up (god Im stupid), then using the core centre, i pushed the fsb up to 147.

I eventually got 52 fps on comanche 4. Which is good.
I also stuck my pc thru the 3dmark03 test and got a score of 57xx

tho I heard about the ati 9700 of reaching 6xxx ....

    how can this be??

the 9700 and 9800 are essentaily the same cards, just that some small optimisations in the 9800pro. the 9700pro would get v close to it if running at teh same clock speeds (380/340). i have a 9700np, which runs at 400/313, i am close if not past beating a 9800pro at stock speeds, though a 9800pro could clock to about 450/380
