nice choices, cept: the case - a couple of mates have them and they are CHEAP! they really do fall apart and you will notice the difference without a removable motherboard tray.
the case fans - have you checked the noise output? If noise bothers you, spend a couple more quid and make sure they are quiet.
lastly - if you are getting a antec case, why in gods name are you not getting the case with psu? the cases come out at around £20 if you buy one with an antec (argueably the best psus in the world) psu.
the ram - i have the cl2 of this ram (with copper heatspreaders), running at 195*2. Its rated at 3200 but I've had a dodgy stick (rmaed)and a mate has had 2 dodgy sticks. make sure you run memtest for a while (i.e. overnight) to make sure you have a pristine stick.
but in general, not bad :).

Looks like a good system but = ), PLEASE dont get that motherboad... get a abit or asus dont get the intel brand motherboard. i dont know if you plan on overclocking or what not but intel board are very limiting... just my 2 cents

DITTO evildoc's comment.
Get an Abit or ASUS motherboard.
Personally, I like Abit a little better than ASUS. So go for an Abit IC-7 or IS-7 both perform on par with the Intel mobo at stock speeds. But have much greater flexibility for tweaking and overclocking.
Just the ability to tweak the memory options alone (turning on Turbo, F1, Streetracer or setting timings instead of by SPD) is enough reason to get the Abit.
Then why not overclock even just a little bit.
Even the Intel mobo's now offer I think 4% or 8% overclocking. Nothing compared to ABit's reputation for 50% overclocks a lot of the time.

THAT IS THE BEST P4 motherboard out there. I thought it might be out of your price range so I didnt specifically mention it. But that is THE BEST mobo PERIOD! :)
GET IT if you dont mind paying the price. However, just to let you know the ABit IS-7 performs just as well. But may run slightly warmer and might not overclock all the way to 300Mhz (1200Mhz) FSB as well.

after a bit of a think, i aint gunna be overclocking THAT much, hence the above mobo might be a bit on the pricey side for what im after,
i think the step down from that is more what im after

Id go for a chieftec dragon over that case, heard that the antec cases are very poorly made. Never used one of them or know someone who has one of them so can't back it up.
I got my chieftec dragon for £52 from scan is a brilliant case, and isnt poorly made what so ever and very nice airflow :).
-
imho that would be 10 times better then the intel board, for the money thats what i would get!
-
i have a mate (richie) with an antec case and ive seen it at a lan and looks rather spiffing to me
This is replacing a 20 quid case for a duron 1200, broken gf3 ti200, qtec power supply, 512 SDram, etc etc :/
-
Nowt wrong with antec case build quality.... I have an Antec Perofrmance Plusg 660AMG and cant see it being any diff than any other case TBH.
Only bad point is the paint can be scratched off easily :(
As to noise/fans/psu.... I agree with DGR - I have 4 x 80mm fans in my case (1 side, 1 rear and 2 front for case and HDD's) and the Antec PSU comes with dedicated fan only connectors which run the fans at 1300-1400RPM most of the time.
If the heat goes up then the PSU speeds up the fans and keeps it cool.
- 4 x 80 mm case fans @ 1400RPM
- 92mm CPU fan @ 1400RPM
- 40mm NB fan @ 4000RPM
Out of all that my NB fan is the only one I can physically hear unless I press my ear to the case.... I just need to get my passive NB sink in and it will be virtually silent YET still has the ability to cool down quick if the temps increase...

£900??
eeeeek!
Im so lucky to have a cousin in the computer trade business.
ahhhhhh 9800's for £160.......*orgasm*
But still, yea sounds like a pretty good rigg!

The Abit IC-7 G Max 2 is also an awesome board. They're all almost the same exact thing. Except the Max3 has the OTES cooling system designed to keep the power components/mosfets cool (really only necessary for extreme overclocks or possibly for 3.6-4.0+Ghz Prescott processors down the road.)
Anyone of these:
IS-7 E $90
IC-7 - $120
IS-7 G $145
IC-7 G Max2 $160
IC-7 G Max3 $210
are going to preform similiarly. But as you go up they come with a few more fancy features. Like extra SATA ports/channels, Gigabyte LAN, etc. The MAX's are a little expensive and unless you need all the extra junk go for the IC-7 vanilla. If you want the extra's you can still get the IS-7 G and get gigabyte LAN, etc.
-
PS. You do plan on getting 2 sticks of ram right? You know you need 2 matching (same brand/size/SPD timings) sticks to use dual channel DDR and get the most out of your system. Like if you want 1GB of ram buy 2 - 512MB sticks.
Dont pay extra for "matched" pairs. Just increase quantity to 2 of what ever you need to order! ;)
-
yup that 1gb is 2x512 sticks :)
